Early Years
1970
Cultivation of hemp becomes illegal.
1998
Industrial hemp is legalized, and Fresh Hemp Foods (Hemp Oil Canada) is founded!
1999
Fresh Hemp Foods opens Canada's first hemp-exclusive seed processing facility in Manitoba.
2003
Fresh Hemp Foods (Hemp Oil Canada) founder, Shaun Crew, helps found the Canadian Hemp Trade Alliance (CHTA).
Growth
2006
Increased demand for hemp foods leads to acquisition of a larger processing facility in Ste. Agathe, Manitoba.
2015
Fresh Hemp Food's new 37,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility opens in Ste. Agathe, Manitoba to accommodate larger processing volumes and a state-of-the-art quality lab.
2018
Fresh Hemp Foods continues to be the global leader in hemp ingredients exporting hemp to more than 15 countries around the world.
2018
First company in the hemp industry to receive Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS). Fresh Hemp Foods is in the top 1% of North American companies for food safety best practices.
Today
2019
Added a heat treatment system to our BRC AA certified facility. Fresh Hemp Foods is the only North American hemp ingredient supplier to provide a third-party validated 5-log kill step.
2019
Tilray acquires Fresh Hemp Foods and accelerates the mission of transforming consumer health through the power of hemp.
2021
Aphria and Tilray merge becoming the world's biggest cannabis company by revenue in the process.
